Turkish Maritime Pilots Association
The Turkish Pilots Association, headquartered in Istanbul, is the unique civil society that represents all actively working and retired pilots, whom we describe as invisible heroes in the Bosporus, the spiritual home of pilotage, and in all our ports that have blue gates opening to the world.
The Association's Name Earning Process
Turkish Maritime Pilots Association was established in 1968. When it was founded, it was called the Marine Pilot Captains Association. Later, it changed to Maritime Pilots Association. This association represents nearly all the pilots in Turkey. In addition to being a professional institution with this feature, both its activities in professional matters and its contributions to the navigation safety of our country's seas and Turkish Straits and the protection of the marine environment, as a result of academic and research studies were evaluated. As a result of the evaluation made, it was entitled to use the phrase "Turkish" with the decision of the Council of Ministers. At the end of this period, it went through, it was renamed "Turkish Pilots Association." I accept the necessity of experience, knowledge, enough equipment, and necessary training to become a Pilot. The association also serves its members by acting under its name.
Aims of the Turkish Maritime Pilots Association
In addition to keeping the guiding profession, which is performed by considering the public interest, away from competition, necessary studies are carried out to support the service quality. There are several principles in the fulfillment of the Maritime Pilot profession. In the formation of these principles, it is considered useful to act with the main goal in mind. The association tries to be very sensitive in this regard. The task of the pilot is to protect the environment from the ship and the ship from the environment. Despite all the negatives that may be encountered during the cruise; it controls ensuring the safety of life, property, and environment and maintaining the quality of guidance service at a high level. It is a very important element for the ship. The association also brings awareness to its members how important this task is. It is among the aims of the association to keep the belief that pilots perform in an important and dangerous profession. The Turkish Pilots Association continues its activities to bring the necessary sense of unity and solidarity for its members.
