The Chamber of Shipping
The Chamber of Shipping for Istanbul and Marmara, Aegean, Mediterranean, Black Sea Regions, also known as the Chamber of Shipping, is an important professional organization of the Turkish maritime trade sector. The center of the room is located in Istanbul. Its branches are in İzmir, Bodrum, Marmaris, Antalya, İskenderun, Fethiye, Karadeniz Ereglisi (Western Black Sea Region), Kocaeli, and Aliaga. Also, there are representative offices in cities and towns all coasts of Turkey, with a liaison office in Ankara.
Chamber of Shipping and its Members
The Chamber of Shipping was first established on August 26, 1982, under the name Istanbul Chamber of Shipping. Over time scope of the Sea of Marmara Region, reached the shores of the Aegean and Mediterranean coast of Turkey. Later, it was expanded to cover the Black Sea coast of the country.
Among the members of the Chamber of Shipping; There are ship owners, ship operators, ship agents, shipbrokers. Members of the maritime chamber of commerce include shipping agencies, loading, unloading, and stacking companies as well as payroll companies in loading and unloading. Likewise, there are also people working in auxiliary services such as ship classification societies, ship insurance companies, insurers, and their agents, ship surveyors, and experts, rescue, pilotage, dredging the sea bottom, yachting, marina operator, and ship supply.
Purposes and Activities of the Chamber of Shipping
The most important purpose of the Chamber of Shipping is to protect the interests of its members. Also, meeting the common needs of seafarers, ensuring the development of the maritime profession, facilitating professional activities, and creating common rules are among the objectives of the Chamber of Shipping. Thanks to this room, the authorities are advised on maritime problems and at the same time, the discipline, ethics, and solidarity of the maritime profession are protected.
Among the main activities of the Chamber of Shipping are determining the rules and practices related to maritime transport and conducting researches. Other activities are to collect information about maritime transport, to ensure the development of maritime trade under the national transport policy, and to inform foreign organizations about the possibilities and tariffs of Turkish ports. Being a member of international maritime organizations, monitoring their activities, and fulfilling other duties specified by law are among the activities of the Chamber of Shipping.
