Happy Delivery
The Golden Age of Piracy continued from 1690 to 1725. Between these dates, the Bahamas was home to the largest concentration of pirates of any other Caribbean country. The ship named Happy Delivery was among these famous pirate ships. The area where the Bahamas is located was next to the strips, which provided a great resource to pirates. The waters around this area were very shallow. For this reason, it was not suitable for warships used by the Navy. But the shallow waters were perfect for pirates' draft ships. Thanks to this feature, it was preferred by pirates.
What is Piracy?
The word pirate in the Turkish language we use today means "sea bandit". The Latin equal of this word is derived from the word curses. This word means seafarer commissioned by a person with official identification. In our language; It is used for those capturing the ship and the crew on that ship.
When the famous pirate ships are examined, it is seen that the people who loot are good sailors. Usually, they start piracy after they sail .
Although it has left its golden age behind, piracy activities continue today. Pirate ships cause financial losses ranging from 13 to 16 billion dollars each year. According to researches, piracy activities are more common in the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean in our period. Yet, these activities do not attract as much attention as in the past.
Who is the Captain of the Happy Delivery Ship?
Every pirate ship can't write its name in history. Ships that can stand out with one feature have managed to become famous. Despite its small size, the Happy Delivery ship has made a name for itself with its outstanding success.
The captain who managed to steer this famous little ship in the most helpful way possible is Henry Fowler. Fowler owns several more ships thanks to the Happy Delivery ship.
The small size of the Happy Delivery ship meant it was also poor in ammunition. There were 50 slaves and only 17 cannons on the ship. But, despite the insufficient crew and ammunition, the ship made a lot of looting and made its name written in the history of famous pirate ships.
